I recently came across a wonderfully well-researched page on tyzack.net, describing Henry Tyzack’s move to Hackney from Sheffield. Not only do I live in Hackney, I’ve worked in and around it for a decade or so. I’m very familiar with all the addresses mentioned and the author’s descriptions give a wonderful colour and reality to what life must have been like as a 19th century tool maker in the East End. Well worth reading this fascinating page and other pages from the site. I’m now looking at my Tyzack tenon saw in a completely
new light.

Hi there were 3 tyzack shops, 1st one S tyzack which was located just under the iron bridge on Old Street, 2nd Parry tyzack which was located also few door away from S Tyzack on Old Street. These two shop have closed down many years ago. The 3rd Tyzack shop was Cecil Tyzack which was located around the corner on Kingsland Road, which i am the owner off and still going.

My Dad started as a tea boy at Tyzack & Son when he was 13 years old (about 1944) He learned his engineering trade there. He has passed on now but I remember often going under the named bridge as I lived in Shoreditch. I now live in South Africa but my memories live on.

I just received a Drexel tool l fromHACKNEY TOOL AND SAW THE NAME CW TYZACK AND remembered my father had a tyzac saw and I.m 90 LONG MAY THEY LAST .TOOL AND MODEL SHOPS ARE STILL CLOSING DOWN BUT A FRIEND OF MY WHO OWNS A SMALL TOOL SHOP SAID HE HAD NEVER BEEN BUSIER SINCE THE SHUT DOWN
